Career move

Personal #Career #Move

After almost three years of Crowd Surfing, the time has come for me to move on.

I joined Crowd Surfing a couple of months before the end of university, about three years ago, to help out with introducing more quality into the code base. I worked on a coding standard and when summer came I went to work full-time. I introduced several key QA methods such as version control software, localhost development and debugging, one step builds and unit testing.

Among my key projects were refactoring the legacy CMS to work with Zend Framework and building several 1000+ visits a day websites. All of them are based on the now revamped CMS, most of which was written by me. This blog uses almost exactly the same code as the company blog:)

With quality and ease of development up and my time in projects down by over 70%, my tasks shifted from programming towards organization, support and content management. This signaled to me that my contribution to Crowd Surfing has been fulfilled. I have spoken my mind, introduced my ideas and built my solutions. It’s time for fresh blood and I hope my successors will be happy with the state I’m leaving my position in.

Thanks, Crowd Surfing, for a wonderful time. It went by so quickly! I want to wish my old colleagues good fortunes and all the best. We’ll keep in touch, I’m sure. If you, dear reader, are based around Amsterdam or Alkmaar and looking for a good place to spend your time, apply!

Monday October third I will start as a rookie Procurioot at Procurios. Procurios is a bit larger than Crowd Surfing and specializes in about the same market, but at a greater scale. With eight developers already there I hope to pick up a heap of new skills and ideas and share my own. I am very excited about and a bit scared by this opportunity – but I’m convinced I will be able to produce the same value for Procurios that I am used to, and more.
